Split and solve separately for the compound inequality:
x < 3x +2 & 3x+2 < 2x + 6
<===> -2 < 2x & x < 4
<===> -1 < x & x < 4
<===> -1 < x < 4.
The solution set is thus the open interval (-1, 4).
