f+5 = 3(s+5)

Simplify::
f - 7s = -30
f - 3s = 10

Subtract and solve for "s":
4s = 40
son's age = 10 yrs

Solve for "f":
f - 5 = 7(s-5)
f - 5 = 7(10-5)
f = 7*5+5 = 40 years (father's age)
