You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Why is dividing 32 by 0.40 gives me 80? or Why is the result of the division of a whole number by a decimal inferior to 1 gives a bigger result than the devidend? I would like to know what it means in reality..
-----
Why is 12/4 = 3
Ans: Because 3*4 = 12
-----------------------------
In generalo a/b = c means that c*b = a
-------------------------------
So, if we replace 4 by a smaller number we
would expect the answer would be a number
larger than 3 so the product could still be 12.
And it is.
Ex:: 12/2 = 6
---
Similarly, if the denominator is reduced to (1/2)
the answer would have to be larger than 6.
And it is.
Ex:: 12/(1/2) = 24
-------
This illustrates the principle that a quotient
will get larger as its denominator gets smaller.
