Question 104277: I sure hope that I chose the right topic, if not I apologize.
I am stuck on this word problem and am finally asking for help.
Here is the word problem.
The sum of two numbers is 133. The second is 7 more than 3 times the first. What are the two numbers?
Am I on the right track? (Here is what I have so far).
x + y = 133
y = 7 + (5x)
x + 7 + (5x) = 133
This is as far as I have gotten. This does not seem right to me though. Can you please get me on the right track? Thank you and much appreciated. Answer by rossiv53(27) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi,
Your mistake is in the second part of the problem. The second # is or equal to 7 more than 3 times the 1st.
y=3x+7
Your answer is x=31.5 and y=101.5.
Good luck!
