Question 104277: I sure hope that I chose the right topic, if not I apologize.
I am stuck on this word problem and am finally asking for help.
Here is the word problem.
The sum of two numbers is 133. The second is 7 more than 3 times the first. What are the two numbers?
Am I on the right track? (Here is what I have so far).
x + y = 133
y = 7 + (5x)
x + 7 + (5x) = 133
This is as far as I have gotten. This does not seem right to me though. Can you please get me on the right track? Thank you and much appreciated.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi,
Your mistake is in the second part of the problem. The second # is or equal to 7 more than 3 times the 1st.
y=3x+7
Your answer is x=31.5 and y=101.5.
Good luck!
