is 96/12 = 8. That is 12*8 = 96
The ratio of the sides is 8/12 or 2/3
The length of the short side is 2/3 of the long side.
Since the actual note has an area of 6 square inches,
let x = the length of the long side.
The area 6 = x * (2/3)x
6 = (2/3)x^2
multiply each side by 3/2
9 = x^2
So x = 3
The long side is 3 so the short side must be 2,
The dimensions are 2 x 3 which gives us the 6 square inches.
