Question 1042339: Please help me solve this problem:
Amanda is having new tile installed in her kitchen. TileAll charges a flat fee of $378.00 plus $15.00 per tile. KitchenPlus charges a flat fee of $550.00 plus $14.50 per tile. Amanda has a 10% discount coupon at KitchenPlus.
a) If Amanda purchases x tiles, What is the expression that can be used to model the average cost per tile at KitchenPlus?
b) How many tiles does Amanda have to order for the average cost per tile to be equal at both TileAll and KitchenPlus?

Answer by robertb(5830) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) The total cost for Amanda if she buys from KitchenPlus is 0.90(550 + 14.50x). Her average cost per tile is thus %28+++0.90%28550+%2B+14.50x%29+%29%2Fx.

b) To determine how many tiles Amanda has to order for the average cost per tile to be equal at both TileAll and KitchenPlus, solve the equation
%28+0.90%28550+%2B+14.50x%29+%29%2Fx+=+%28378+%2B+15x%29%2Fx. (Assuming x%3C%3E0.)
===> 495 + 13.05x = 378 + 15x
===> 117 = 1.95x ===> x = 60 tiles.
