Question 1042253: mr. Davis is in the process of driving through a tunnel 8 miles long. at this instant what is the probability that he is at least 6 miles from one end of the tunnel? Answer by Aldorozos(172) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let's divide the tunnel to three sections.
The first section two miles
The second section four miles
The third section two miles.
As long as he is in the second section he is less than six miles from the beginning of the tunnel. He is also less than six miles from the end of the tunnel.
The possibility that he is in the first section is 25%
The possibility that he is in the second section is 50%
The possibility that he is in the third section is 25%
The possibility that he is either in the first section or the third section is 25%+25% = 50% and the possibility that he is in the second section is also is 50% since the second section is equal the first section plus the third section.
The answer to this problem is 50%
