Question 1041814: Timothy has 1 gallon of 6% bleach, assume 94% is water.
Timothy decides to dilute the bleach separately. Timothy
pours 10mL, 9mL, 8mL, 7mL, 6mL, and 1mL, of the bleach
into 6 different containers and then fills the difference
to 10mL with water. Calculate the new percentage of the
bleach in each container.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Timothy has 1 gallon of 6% bleach, assume 94% is water.

Let n mL = 10mL, 9mL, 7mL, 6mL or 1mL

In each container, we are pouring in n mL of 6% bleach,
and 10-n mL of water

                milliliters percent milliliters
                    of of bleach of pure
                  liquid as decimal bleach
Bleach solution n 0.06 0.06n
Water 10-n 0.00 0.00(10-n)
Mixture 10 0.06n

Then to find the percent of bleach in the mixture we divide
the number of milliliters of bleach solution by the number
of milliliters of liquid.

                milliliters percent milliliters
                    of of bleach of pure
                  liquid as decimal bleach
Bleach solution n 0.06 0.06n
Water 10-n 0.00 0.00(10-n)
Mixture 10 0.06n/10 0.06n

percent of bleach as a decimal = 0.06n/10 = .006n

For n = 10 mL, 0.06(10)/10 = .06 = 6% <- (can't pour in any
water for it's full of 6%)
For n = 9 mL, 0.06(9)/10 = .054 = 5.4%

For n = 8 mL, 0.06(8)/10 = .048 = 4.8%

For n = 7 mL, 0.06(7)/10 = .042 = 4.2%

For n = 6 mL, 0.06(6)/10 = .036 = 3.6%

For n = 1 mL, 0.06(1)/10 = .006 = 0.6%
