Let Y be the number of ounces of 24% alloy.
So the total weight equation is,
1.X%2BY=100
and the total concentration equation is,
14X%2B24Y=20%28X%2BY%29
14X%2B24Y=20%28100%29
14X%2B24Y=2000
2.7X%2B12Y=1000
Multiply equation 1 by -12 and add to equation 2 to solve for X.
-12X%2B7X-12Y%2B12Y=-1200%2B1000
-5X=-200
X=40
So then from eq. 1,
40%2BY=100
