Question 1040354: Determine whether the graph of y=x^3+1 is symmetric with respect to the origin
the x-axis or the y-axis
A. symmetric with respect to the x-axis only
B. symmetric with respect to the y-axis only
C. symmetric with respect to the origin only
D. not symmetric with respect to the x-axis, not symmetric with respect to the y-axis, and not symmetric with respect to the origin

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the equation is y = x^3 + 1.

if this equation is symmetric about the origin, then (x,y) = (-x,-y)

if this equation is symmetric about the x-axis then (x,y) = (x,-y)

if this equation is symmetric about the y-axis then (x,y) = (-x,y)

when x = 3, y = 28
when x = -3, y = -26

if this was symmetric about the origin, then when x = -3, y would have been equal to -28 and it isn't because it is equal to -26.

if this was symmetric about the x-axis, then when x = 3, y would have been equal to plus or minus 28 and it isn't because it is equal to 28 only.

if this was symmetric about the y-axis, then when x = -3, y would have been equal to 28 and it isn't because it is equal to -26.

therefore there is no symmetry at all in this equation.
