Question 1039998: Joey has $3.75 in his pocket. He has twice as many dimes as quarters and five more nickels than quarters. How many quarters does Joey have in his pocket? Answer by Aldorozos(172) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Think about the number of quarters as Q
Therefore the number of dimes is 2Q
Number of nickels is Q+5
Now we convert everything to pennies
Q*25 + 2Q(10)+ (Q+5)5 = 375
50Q + 25 = 375
50Q = 375
Q = 7. This means we have 7 quarters which is equivalent to 175 cents
Number of dimes = 2*Q = 14 = 140 cents
Number of Nickels Q+5 = 12 = 60 cents
