Let's look at a number that is between 36 and 48 (for example 42)
We have to form a sequence that its mean is 42
One simple sequence is 40, 42 and 44. We know that the arithmetic mean (average) of these numbers is 42 since if we add them and divide them by 3 we get 42. Therefore 40, 42 and 44 is a simple sequence that its mean is between 36 and 48
Similarly we can write a sequence with more numbers like
38, 40, 42, 44, and 46. This sequence also has an arithmetic mean of 42
I can write a formula for this sequence finite 38, 40, 42, 44, 46
Xn = 36 + 2n where n = 1,2,3,4,5
If we assume n=1 the first term would be 36+2(1) = 38
The second term when n=2 would be 36+2(2) = 40 and so on.
