1)Let c=hours by car and b=hours by bus. Then
50c+40(4-c)=185
50c+160-40c=185
10c=25
c=2.5
b=1.5!!!!!!!
2)Assuming the pipes are running simultaneously, then:
n/1.5-n/1.75=.5
1.75n-1.5n=1.3125
.25n=1.3125
n=5.25 hours before the tank is half full!!!!!!!!!!!!
