You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Collect some dimes and quarters and determine the amount of money collected. Translate the following into an equation: d dimes and q quarters = A, where A is the amount collected. Graph the equation and determine 2 different combinations of dimes and quarters that total this same amount, A.
A. $1.75
B. 10 dimes and 3 quarters.
C. 15 dimes and 1 quarter.
-----
Equation::
10d + 25q = 175 cents
-----
2d + 5q = 35
2d = 35-5q
2d = 5(7-q)
Since 2d is even, 7-q must be even and positive
If q = 1, 2d = 5*(7-1) = 30
then d = 15
So # of dimes = 15 when # of quarters = 1
------
If q = 3, 2d = 5(7-3) = 20
then d = 10
So # of dimes = 10 when # of quarters = 3
-------'
If q = 5, 2d = 5(7-5) = 10
then d = 5
So # of dimes = 5 when # of quarters = 5
