Question 1037302: Suppose there are 2 red balls, 5 blue balls, and 1 black ball. What’s the minimum number of balls you have to draw to ensure a blue ball is drawn? Answer by Edwin McCravy(20060) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Suppose there are 2 red balls, 5 blue balls, and 1 black
ball. What’s the minimum number of balls you have to draw
to ensure a blue ball is drawn?
There are three balls that aren't blue. The most extreme case is when
you draw all three non-blue balls first. In that extreme case you must
draw a blue ball on your fourth try. Any other case you would have
already drawn a blue ball before your fourth try. So the answer is 4.
