You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let x = the number of days of sunshine in boston.
then 1.8 * x = the number of days of sunshine in colorado springs.

your formula becomes x + 1.8 * x = 487.

combine like terms to get 2.8 * x = 487.

solve for x to get x = 487 / 2.8 = 173.9385714.

round this off to 174.

boston gets 174 days of sunshine.

colorado springs gets 487 - 174 = 313.

to confirm you did this right, do the following:

313 + 174 = 487 so the total is correct.

colorado springs gets 313 / 174 = 1.798850575 * the number of days of sunshine that boston gets.

round this off to 1.8 so the ratio is correct.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let n be the sunshiny days in Boston. Then:
n+1.8n=487
2.8n=487
n=487/2.8=173.93 days of sunshine in Boston;
1.8n=313.07 days of sunshine in Colorado Springs!!!!!!!!!
