Question 1036339: Volum of A Trangular prism.
about the prism:
prism is laying flat. Prism Triangle has no height.
Triangle face has a side of 6 and a base of 10.
Prism has a length of 14 (which would be the height of the prism?)
My answer: 770cm^3
Book's answer: 232.16 cm^3
Can someone explain where I went wrong? Answer by rothauserc(4718) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! volume of a triangular prism = (1/2) * base * height * length
:
base = 10cm, one side = 6cm, length = 14cm
:
use Pythagorean Theorem
:
h^2 + 5^2 = 6^2
:
note that (1/2) * 10 is the base of the right triangle formed using the height
:
h^2 = 36 - 25 = 11
:
h = 3.3166247 approx 3.32
:
********************************************
Volume = (1/2) * 10 * 3.32 * 14 = 232.16cm^3
