You can put this solution on YOUR website! 28 people were walking on their way home from the fair each
carrying a helium-filled balloon on a string in each hand. Some
let go of the strings and the balloons went sky-high. If one-half
of the group did not have 2 balloons when they arrived home, and
half of this number only had 1 balloon, how many balloons were
remaining when the group arrived home?
When they arrived, 14 people either had 0 balloons or 1 balloon,
and the other 14 still had both balloons.
7 had 1 balloon, so 7 had no balloons.
So when they got home, 14 had two balloons, making 2×14 or 28
balloons. 7 had 1 balloon, and 7 had 0 balloons.
That's 28+7+0 = 35 balloons.
