The answer is -12, and 7. If we add these two we get -5 and if we multiply we get - 84
X+ y = -5
X*y= -74
If x+y= -5 then y= -5-x we replace y in the second equation with x
X*(-5-x)=-74 This gives us -5x-x^2 =-74 if we multiply both sides of the equation by -1 we get x^2+5x = 74. If we solve this quadratic just equation we get -12. If we substitute x in our first equation we get 7 for y.
