let a = no. of days for A to do the job alone
let the completed job = 1

Find a + = 1
multiply equation by 18a, cancel the denominators and you have:
18(12) + 12a = 18a
216 = 18a - 12a
216 = 6a
a = 216/6
a = 36 days A working alone
From this we can see that A does 1/3 of the job and B does 2/3
12/36 = 1/3, therefore * 360 = $120 is A's share of the payment for the job
