Your family has decided to put a regular patio in your backyard similar to the shape of your backyard. Your backyard has a length of 40 feet and a width of 32 feet. The length of your new patio is 14 feet. Find the perimeter of your new patio.

We can use proportions to find the width of the patio...from that we can get the perimeter of it...
40%2F32+=+14%2Fw
40w = 32*14
40w = 448
w = 448/40 = 11.2 feet
so that
P = 2L + 2W = 2(14) + 2(11.2) = 28 + 22.4 = 50.4 feet
