x^2-7x+12>0 
we start by factoring it..we get 
(x-3)(x-4) > 0 
For us to have a product greater than zero, both factors have to be positive or both have to be negative... 
For both to be positive, x has to be greater than 4. 
For both to be negative, x has to be less than 3. 
In interval notation, it looks like 
(-infinity, 3) U (4, infinity)
