SOLUTION: One number is 5 less than three times another number. If the product of the two number is 50, what are the numbers? My work: x=3x-5 (x)(3x-5)=50 3x^2-5x-50=0 (3x+10)(x-5)

Question 1033535: One number is 5 less than three times another number. If the product of the two number is 50, what are the numbers?
My work:
x=3x-5
(x)(3x-5)=50
3x^2-5x-50=0
(3x+10)(x-5)
3x+10=0
3x=10
x=10/3
x-5=0
x=5

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=3x-5
xy=50
x(3x-5)=50
3x^2-5x=50
3x^2-5x-50=0
(3x+10)(x-5)=0
x=-10/3, or 5
5 is the most sensible choice, thus:
5((3x5)-5)=5x10=50!!!!!!!
Your maths is correct.
