Adding any kind of number (can be positive or negative) added to both sides of the inequality doesn't change the sign.
Maybe you are thinking about the rule regarding the multiplication of negative numbers to both sides of the inequality.
For real numbers a and b, if
a%3Eb
and you multiply both sides by a negative number c,
the inequality becomes
a%2Ac%3Cb%2Ac
