Question 1032466: What is the dimensions of a rectangle Lenth and width if the length is two more than five times its width, the perimeter is 76 Answer by pphantom(4) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! For a rectangle of width - w, length - L, and perimeter - p
w+w+L+L = p or 2w+2L=p
For our problem we know:
L=5w+2
p=76
2L+2w=76
Therefore:
w in terms of L: 2(5w+2)+2w=76
10w+10+2w=76
10w+2w=66
12w=66
w=6
L=5w+2 = 5*6+2=32
In a work problem use symbols for words:
length = 2 + 5*width
perimeter = 76
"is" always means =
"more" means +
"less" means -
"times" means *
You can always write the symbol over the word.
