You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A car gets 22 miles to the gallon (mpg) in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The car is driven 465 miles on 18.4 gallons of gas. How many miles were driven in the city ? And how many miles were driven on the highway?
-------------------
c = city miles
h = highway miles
---
c + h = 465 --> h = 465-c
c miles/22 (mi/gal) + h miles/30 (mi/gal) = 18.4 gallons
Multiply thru by 330
15c + 11h = 6072
Sub for h
15c + 11*(465-c) = 6072
4c + 5115 = 6072
c = 239.25 miles
h = 225.75 miles
