Kathy is twice as old as Lisa. Three years from now, the sum of their ages will be 42. How old is Kathy?
-------------
Equations:
K = 2L
K+3 + L+3 = 42
-----------------------
Substitute for "K" and solve for "L":
2L + 3 + L+3 = 42
3L + 6 = 42
L + 3 = 21
Lisa = 18 yrs
------
Kathy = 2L = 36 yrs
-----------
