Multiply thru by 12 to get:
4x + 3x = 6x + 240

Hi there,
Make the number = x
If a quarter of a number be added
to one third of the number the
result is 20 greater than one
half of the number
x/4 + x/3 = 20 + x/2
Multiply throughout by 12
Lowest denominator.
3x + 4x = 240 + 6x
Collect like terms:
3x + 4x - 6x = 240
x = 240.
Proof:
240/4 + 240/3 = 20 + 240/2
60 + 80 = 20 + 120
140 = 140
