You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi there,
Eastbound train travels at x mph
Westbound train travels at (x + 12)mph
Time = Distance /Speed
5 hours = 950 miles/ x + (x + 12)
5 = 950/2x + 12
Cross multiply
5(2x + 12) = 950
10x + 60 = 950
10x = 950 - 60
10x = 890
x = 89
Eastbound train travels at 89 mph
Westbound train travels at 101 mph
Hope this helps :-)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Eastbound x mph
Westbound x+ 12 mph
..
They are moving towards each other

So add up their speed.

combined speed = x+ 1 x 12
( 2 x + 12 )
Time = 5 hours
Distance = 950 miles
Distance = speed * time
( 2 x 12 )* 5 = 950
10.00 x + 60 = 950
10 x = 950 + -60
10 x = 890
/ 10
x= 89 mph
Eastbound = 89 mph
Westbound 89 + 12 = 101 mph
