Question 103027: Your test scores for the semester are 87, 84, and 85. Can you raise your test average to 90 with your next test?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Currently there are three test scores:
87, 84, 85
so the current test average is
(87+84+85)/3 = 85.33333333...
Now if we assume that the highest grade you can make on the next test is 100
then the new test average would be
(87+84+85+100)/4 = 89
So the answer is no.
Of course if were possible to score higher that 100 with bonus questions then a score of 104 on the next test would result in a test average of 90.
and a score of a 102 on the next test would result in a test average of 89.5 which could be rounded to a 90 depending on the specifics of how the instructor records grades.
