You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Call their ages now, w and s. So we write
w = 5s
In five years
w + 5 = 3(s + 5)
Now substitute for w and get
5s + 5 = 3s + 15
2s = 10
s = 5
so that
w = 25

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +w+ = woman's ge now
Let +s+ = son's age now
-------------------------
(1) +w+=+5s+
(2) +w+%2B+5+=+3%2A%28+s+%2B+5+%29+
------------------------
Substitute (1) into (2)
(2) +5s+%2B+5+=+3%2A%28+s+%2B+5+%29+
(2) +5s+%2B+5+=+3s+%2B+15+
(2) +2s+=+10+
(2) +s+=+5+
and
(1) +w+=+5s+
(1) +w+=+5%2A5+
(1) +w+=+25+
----------------
The woman is 25
Her son is 5
----------------
check:
(2) +w+%2B+5+=+3%2A%28+s+%2B+5+%29+
(2) +25+%2B+5+=+3%2A%28+5+%2B+5+%29+
(2) +30+=+3%2A10+
(2) +30+=+30+
OK
