Question 1029451: It takes 2 minutes longer to drain a bathtub than it does it fill it. Suppose you forgot to close the drain and the bathtub fills in 15 minutes. How long will it take to fill the tub with the drain closed? Answer by jorel555(1290) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let R=rate at which the bathtub fills;
The bathtub drains at R+2:
1/r-1/r+2=1/15
15(r+2)-15r=r^2+2r
15r+30-15r=r^2+2r
r^2+2r-30=0
Using our quadratic formula, r=sqrt(31)-1
r+2=sqrt(31)+1!!!!!!!!
