You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi there,
Make the First number = x
The third is five less than the first
Third = x - 5
Twice the first minus the second is
3 more than the third.
2(x) - Second = 3 + (x - 5)
2x - Second = 3 + x - 5
2x - Second = -2 + x
-Second = -2 + x - 2x
Second = 2 - x + 2x
Second = 2 + x
.............To recap.
First number = x
Second number = 2 + x
Third number = x - 5
Total of 3
x + (2 + x) + (x - 5) = 3
x + 2 + x + x - 5 = 3
Collect like terms:
x + x + x = 3 - 2 + 5
3x = 6
x = 2
First number = 2
Second number = 4
Third number = -3
Hope this helps :-)
