You can put this solution on YOUR website! Trian A leaves Bosotn for NY at 7 am going 30mph. Trian B leaves NY for Boston at 8:30 am going 80mph. If the distance from Boston to NY is 210miles when did the trains pass each other?
-----
Bos to NY DATA:
rate = 30 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = 30x miles
-------
NY to Bos DATA:
rate = 80 mph ; time = x-(3/2) hrs ; distance = 80(x-(3/2) miles
-------
Equation:
30x + 80(x-(3/2)) = 120 miles
30x + 80x - 120 = 120
110x = 240
x = 24/11 = 2 2/11 hrs = 2hr 10 min 54 sec
-----
Ans: Time = 7:00 + 2hr 10min 54 sec = 9:11AM when rounded up

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Train A leaves Boston for NY at 7 am going 30mph.
Train B leaves NY for Boston at 8:30 am going 80mph.
If the distance from Boston to NY is 210miles, when did the trains pass each other?
:
let t = travel time until they met of the A train
train B left 1.5 hrs later, therefore
(t-1.5) = travel time of B when they met
:
When they meet, the sum of their distances will equal 210 mi
Write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
30t + 80(t-1.5) = 210
30t + 80t - 120 = 210
110t = 210 + 120
t = 330/110
t = 3 hrs
:
When train A travels for 3 hrs the time will be 10 AM when they meet
