Question 1026978: I am trying to understand this math problem:
The after tax price of a used care is $12,990.60. If a 4% sales tax was charged, what was the pre tax price of the car?
So far I got:
12,990.60(0.04)=51,962.40
51,962.40-12,990.60=3,897.180
I am kind of confused...

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Such practical problems need some thinking,
If car after tax price was 104 then price is 100
12,990.60 was paid
12990.60/104 * 100
=12490.96 is the pre tax price
