Lamar sent (x - 7) texts
Joe sent 2 times as many messages as Lamar.
Joe sent 2(x - 7) texts.
Add the texts up:
x + x - 7 + 2(x - 7)= 79
x + x - 7 + 2x - 14 = 79
Collect like terms:
x + x + 2x = 79 + 7 + 14
4x = 100
x = 25
Maria sent 25 texts
Lamar sent 18 texts
Joe sent 36 texts.
