Question 102646: I am trying to help my college daughter with some problems.
She says they are order of operations questions. I don't know all the symbols on the keyboard.
Here are the problems:
-36 divided by (-2)x (3) + the square root of 169-25 +12
The back of her book says the answer is 78 and we sure aren't getting that.
2/5 divided by (-1/10) x(-3) + the square root of 64+36
Answer 22
-16x3/4 divided by(-2)+ the absolute value of 9-3(4+1)
Answer 12
4[5-8(2+1] divided by 3-6-(-4)to the second power
Answer 4
I am trying to help her over the phone and she is worried about an exam so I would appreciate any help.

-36 divided by (-2)x (3) + the square root of 169-25 +12
-36/(-2) * 3 + sqrt(169-25) + 12 = 78
18 *3 + sqrt(144)+12 = 78
54 + 12 + 12 = 78
54+24 = 78
78= 78
The back of her book says the answer is 78 and we sure aren't getting that.

[(2/5)/(-1/10)]*(-3) + sqrt[64+36] = 22
[(2/5)*(-10/1)]*(-3) + sqrt[100] = 22
[-4](-3)] + 10 = 22
12 + 10 = 22
22 = 22
Answer 22

Answer 12
[-16*(3/4)]/(-2) + |9-3(4+1)| = 12
[-4*3]/-2] + |9-15|=12
[-12/-2] + 6 = 12
