You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi there,
There are 8 coins
x + y = 8...........(1)
Dimes and quarters
10x + 25y = 125......(2)
Simultaneous equations:
x + y = 8.......(1)
10x + 25y = 125...(2)
Multiply Eq(1) by 25
25x + 25y = 200....(1)
10x + 25y = 125....(2)
Subtract Eq(2) from Eq(1)
15x = 75
x = 5
Substitute x = 5 into Eq(1)
x + y = 8....(1)
5 + y = 8
y = 8 - 5
y =3
5 x Dimes: 3 x Quarters
Hope this helps :-)
