Question 1026366: The ingredients in a cake recipe include 4 ½ cups of flour and ¾ cup of sugar. It is desired to make a cake that will require only ¼ cup of sugar. How much flour should be used? Set it up as a proportion.
A. 1 ¼ cups B. 1 cup C. 4 cups D. 1 ¾ cups
I set my ratio as flour to sugar: 4 1/2 / 3/4 = x / (1/4). Simplifying the left proportion, 9/2 / 3/4 = 9/2 * 4/3= 6
6 = x/ (1/4) = 6* (1/4)= 3/2. Which is not one of the answer choices. What went wrong here?
