You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A cyclists completes a journey of 1500m in 66sec, part of the way at 10m/s and the remainder at 50m/s.
How far does he travel at each speed?
:
Let t = time at 50 m/s
then
(66-t) = time at 10 m/s
:
Write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
50t + 10(66-t) = 1500
50t + 660 - 10t = 1500
50t - 10t = 1500 - 660
40t = 840
t = 840/40
t = 21 sec at 50 m/s
then
21*50 = 1050 meters at 50 m/s
and
66-21 = 45 sec at 10 m/s
then
45 * 10 = 450 meters at 10 m/s
