Assume the equation is:

multiply both sides by (n+a)
P(n + a) = n^2 + a
;
Distribute the P
Pn + Pa = n^2 + a
:
Subtract Pn from both sides, subtract a from both sides
Pa - a = n^2 - Pn

Factor out a
