Question 1024137: a. You ride your bike to a store, 4 mi away, to pick up things for dinner. When there is no wind, you ride at 10 mi/h. Today your trip to the store and back took 1 hour. What was the speed of the wind today?
b. Reasoning: Explain why there is no difference between the travel time to and from the store when there is no wind.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! a.
-------------
Why would there be a difference?
It's called the "relative wind." For a ground vehicle, it's the vector sum of the windspeed (wrt the Earth) and the vehicle speed (wrt the Earth).
If the windspeed is zero, the direction of the vector is not relevant.
-----------
What is the relation between windspeed and bike speed?
The windspeed is not linearly related to bike speed. A 10 mi/hr crosswind when biking at 10 mi/hr does not cause a 45 deg change in direction.
