Question 1023395: Dear Tutor,
I have to write an equation, that is initially expressed in words, in numbers and find the number/answer.
Three times the sum of six and a number is a negative nine. Find the number.
*is this correct?: 3(x+6)= -9 Then I solved for x and got: x= -9
So the equation is done. Is the answer -9? Did I set the equation up right?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Looks like you got it right.
3(x+6)= -9
3x + 18 = -9
add -18 to each side
3x = -27
divide each side by 3
x = -9
