You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Make (X) the subject and simplify
%28a%5E2%2Fx%5E2%29%2B+%28b%5E2%2Fy%5E2%29+=+1
multiply equation by x^2y^2, cancel the denominators
a^2y^2 + b^2x^2 = x^2y^2
subtract b^2x^2 from both sides
a^2y^2 = x^2y^2 - b^2x^2
factor out x^2
a^2y^2 = x^2(y^2 - b^2)
Divide both sides by (y^2-b^2)
%28%28a%5E2y%5E2%29%29%2F%28%28y%5E2+-+b%5E2%29%29 = x^2
find the square root of both sides and the answer is:
x = sqrt%28%28a%5E2y%5E2%29%2F%28y%5E2+-+b%5E2%29%29
