Question 1022128: When the measures of the angles of a triangle are placed in order, the difference between the middle angle and smallest angle is equal to the difference between the middle angle and largest angle. If one of the angles of the triangle has measure 23 degress then what is the measure in degrees of the largest angle of the triangle?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x, y, z, in that order by size;

y-x=z-y%2Cx%2By%2Bz=180

2y-x=z
2y=z%2Bx
x-2y%2Bz=0

system%28x-2y%2Bz=0%2Cx%2By%2Bz=180%29
You can try starting with x=23, and see what you find for y and z.

-2y%2Bz=-23
2y-z=23
,
and y%2Bz=180-x
y%2Bz=180-23
y%2Bz=157
,
and use the system trying to solve system%282y-z=23%2Cy%2Bz=157%29.

Using elimination, adding corresponding members, 3y=180
y=60, which seems good.

z should be 23%2B60%2Bz=180 or z=97.

When the measures of the angles of a triangle are placed in order, the difference between the middle angle and smallest angle is equal to the difference between the middle angle and largest angle. Let largest, middle, and smallest angles, be L, M, and S, respectively
We then get: M - S = L - M______L - 2M + S = 0 ------- eq (i)
Also, L + M + S = 180 ------- eq (ii)
- 3M = - 180 ------ Subtracting eq (ii) from eq (i)
M, or middle angle = %28-+180%29%2F%28-+3%29, or 60%5Eo
It's obvious that 23%5Eo COULD NEVER be the largest angle, so now that we know the middle angle, 23%5Eo is the smallest angle
Therefore, L, or largest angle = 180 - (60 + 23), or 180 - 83, or highlight_green%2897%5Eo%29
