Question 1022013: A city's streets are laid out in a rectangular grid, with all blocks equal size.
Kendra catches a taxi from home and rides 6 blocks east to the pharmacy. After filling her prescription she catches another taxi 7 blocks north to the pet shop. After buying her dog a new toy she catches a third taxi 5 blocks west to the dry cleaners.
If Kendra catches another taxi and ask to be driven, how many blocks will the ride be?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I assume driven home.
Starting at (0,0),
To the pharmacy,
(0,0)+(6,0)=(6,0)
To the pet shop,
(6,0)+(0,7)=(6,7)
To the dry cleaners,
(6,7)+(-5,0)=(1,7)
Back to home,
(1,7)+(X,Y)=(0,0)
X=-1. One block west,
Y=-7. Seven blocks south.
8 blocks total.
