Question 102188: what happens to y if y is inversely proportional to x, and x is tripled?
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! what happens to y if y is inversely proportional to x, and x is tripled?
--------------
If y is inversely proportional to x, y = k/x
--------------
If you triple x you get y = k/(3x)
which can be written as h = (1/3)(k/x)
===============
So you see, if you triple the x you get (1/3) the y.
That is because y and x are inversely proportional;
as one get larger, the other gets smaller.
