y = 40-x

Substitute for y:
0.20x+0.10(40-x) = 0.16(40)
Multiply to eliminate parentheses
0.20x+4-0.10x = 6.4 subtract x on left and 4 on both sides
0.10x = 2.4 divide both sides by 0.10
x = 24 You need 24 gallon of the 20% solution and:
