Two brothers leave from the same point driving in opposite directions, the first brother driving at 65 miles per hour and the second at 55mph. The first brother has a one-hour head start. How long will they be able to talk on their car phones if the phones have a 300-mile range?

let x=travel time of 2nd brother
x+1 =travel time of 1st brother
speed*travel time =distance
55x+65(x+1)=300
55x+65x+65=300
120x=235
x=1.96
The phones will be out of range 1.96 hours after the first brother left.
