Make quarters = x
Nickels = y
x + y = 45.......(1)
25x + 5y = 845....(2)
Multiply (1) by 5
5x + 5y = 225.....(1)
25x + 5y = 845....(2)
Subtract (1) from (2)
20x .....= 620
x = 31
Substitute x = 31 in (10
x + y = 45......(1)
31 + y = 45
y = 14
So, there are 31 quarters and 14 nickels
